Digital chatbot Woebot lands FDA breakthrough designation to tackle postpartum depression

Digital mental health company Woebot Health has landed FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for its postpartum depression digital therapeutic, WB001. WB001 combines cognitive behavioral therapy and elements of interpersonal psychotherapy with the company’s conversational chatbot, Woebot, to deliver treatment directly through patients’ phones.

Limbix Presents Data Demonstrating Treatment with SparkRx Digital Therapeutic

Today, Limbix, a prescription digital therapeutic company developing mental health treatments for adolescents, announced positive results from a virtual randomized controlled trial of SparkRx, the company’s digital therapeutic for adolescents with symptoms of depression. For participants that completed the program as recommended (n = 83), SparkRx led to a statistically significant reduction in depression symptoms compared to an active control app (p = 0.023) and a 21% remission rate compared to a 4% remission rate for control at the end of treatment. Treatment response rates were 29% and 16%, respectively, for SparkRx and control. ‍

Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma inks deal for VR-based DTx with BehaVR

Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co. in Japan and US-based behavioural health firm BehaVR have signed definitive agreements to develop and market general wellness products and prescription digital therapeutics for the treatment of major mental health disorders. The companies initially collaborated in June last year. They jointly developed a wellness product for those experiencing "stressful, fearful and overwhelming" feelings in a social setting. Under their recently signed deals, Sumitomo will fund the development and commercialisation of three novel virtual reality-based therapies for the treatment of social anxiety disorder, generalised anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. It pledged to pay BehaVR $5 million in upfront payments; up to $18 million in development milestone and R&D support payments, on top of commercial and operational support fees; and up to $140 million in milestone payments conditional upon commercial success.

Digital therapeutic course 'HelloBetter Stress and Burnout' has been approved by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices as a Digital Health Application (DiGA). 'HelloBetter Stress and Burnout' is a digital health intervention for the treatment of stress, exhaustion, insomnia and depression. It is now integrated into Germany’s health system and can be offered as a course of treatment by therapists and doctors.
