NuvoAir, Health Plan Partner on Virtual Care Model for COPD

NuvoAir, a value-based, integrated specialty care provider, and Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, a health plan and affiliate of Marshfield Clinic Health System, have launched a clinical research study to measure the impact of the company’s virtual care model on reducing exacerbations, ER visits, hospitalizations, readmissions and overall costs for COPD patients. The 12-month decentralized study, “PROMISE: Pragmatic Assessment of the NuvoAir Clinical Service in the Management of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,” will include up to 1,500 people with COPD (500 receiving the intervention), one of the largest studies in the U.S. to evaluate the value of a virtual care model, NuvoAir says.

Vicore enters into collaboration with Alex Therapeutics to develop new prescription digital therapeutic for patients with IPF

The agreement with Alex Therapeutics marks the initiation of a new clinical program for Vicore (VP04) – the joint development and commercialization of a clinically validated digital therapeutic (DTx) will provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for patients suffering from IPF. VP04 expands Vicore’s existing small therapeutic programs in IPF and other severe respiratory diseases. The digital therapeutic will be designed to provide CBT to IPF patients, in parallel to routine consultations with medical professionals, to help improve their quality of life and support them through the psychological impacts of disease and its diagnosis. Working closely with patient groups and healthcare providers, Vicore and Alex Therapeutics expect to begin the clinical trial of VP04 in 2022.

TatvaCare to launch clinical trial of COPD DTx

Indian health tech company TatvaCare is launching a clinical trial of its digital therapeutic solution, MyTatva, for people with chronic respiratory disorders. The digital-based solution MyTatva combines personalised care plans, IoT device monitoring, coaching, and counselling services to improve patients' compliance with their care programme. According to a press release, the BREATHE DTx trial seeks to test the efficacy and acceptability of the DTx for COPD and asthma. It will also gauge its capability to reduce exacerbations and incidents. For six months, it will be conducted across eight settings in India and will involve up to 200 participants.

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Annual Meeting couldn’t take place this year due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
