Respiratory platform NuvoAir shows high acceptance of its home spirometry

Studies on paediatric pulmonology from the UK and Sweden have demonstrated that both young and adult patients with respiratory disease can achieve good quality spirometry at home, without clinical supervision, when using the NuvoAir Home platform. The platform allows patients to self-monitor their respiratory health and share clinically relevant data with their care teams, who can view these data remotely via a healthcare portal. Other key findings show that patient adherence to self-monitoring schedules is high and that the technology is well accepted by patients and parents.

The vast majority of people with asthma may be using their inhalers incorrectly, potentially making their medicine less effective and increasing their risk of asthma attacks, according to new research published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Traditionally, asthma medicines require that patients take two “puffs” of their inhaler to receive the prescribed dose.

3 New Insights About COPD From Propeller’s Digital Health Tools

This week at ATS 2019, Propeller Health presented three new findings on COPD, all of which used digital health tools to monitor patients’ medication use in a real-world setting and reveal new insights about their disease. This is the latest research to demonstrate how digital health tools continue to revolutionize the way we treat respiratory disease. When providers and patients can monitor the patient’s daily medication use, they’re more likely to adhere to their maintenance medication regimen and thereby experience fewer symptoms and require emergency treatment less often.

Research overview: Findings shared at the 2018 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Conference

Earlier this month, Propeller Health attended the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and World Allergy Organization Joint Conference in Orlando, FL. The conference highlights key advancements in research through symposiums and poster sessions. Propeller, in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital Colorado, presented inhaler sensor data that assessed patterns of rescue and controller medication use among children and adults with self-reported persistent asthma. Using sensor data from almost 1,400 patients, the company observed rates of controller inhaler adherence by age, time of day, and season. Propeller Health found that adolescents and young adults had lower rates of adherence compared to older adults who demonstrated improved adherence with increasing age.

How Digital Health Interventions are Changing the One-Size-Fits-All Approach to Asthma Treatment

The symptoms of asthma may vary dramatically from patient to patient. Age of onset, triggers and mechanism of disease are factors that also influence the symptoms of asthma, the way the disease is expressed and its severity. Propeller Health recently partnered with research scientists from Children’s Hospital Colorado to better understand two of the most challenging complexities of asthma: medication adherence and the assessment of asthma control.
