Development and validation of an electronic daily control score for asthma (e-DASTHMA): a real-world direct patient data study

Validated questionnaires are used to assess asthma control over the past 1–4 weeks from reporting. However, they do not adequately capture asthma control in patients with fluctuating symptoms. Using the Mobile Airways Sentinel Network for airway diseases (MASK-air) app, this study developed and validated an electronic daily asthma control score (e-DASTHMA). e-DASTHMA is a good tool for the daily assessment of asthma control. This tool can be used as an endpoint in clinical trials as well as in clinical practice to assess fluctuations in asthma control and guide treatment optimisation.

Fitterfly presents outcomes from Digital Therapeutics Platform at 16th International Conference on Advanced Technologies and Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD 2023), Germany

Fitterfly's first presentation focused on how their Digital Therapeutics solutions were able to benefit the participants through use of CGM-led behavior change, and personalized lifestyle changes during the 90-day program. Study data included 145 patients who were put on a CGM device for 14 days and then received personalised coaching based on their glycemic responses for next 11 weeks. The study showed 10% improvement in Time in Range (from 66% to 72%) within 14 days and 1% reduction in HbA1c from a baseline of 8.1% in 3 months. This was also accompanied by an average of 2.3 kg of weight loss. UKPDS studies have shown that 1% reduction in HbA1c has significant benefits in terms of 14% reduction in all cause mortality, 30% reduction in retinopathy, kidney failure and strokes. Second study showed predictive insights for the need for CGM calibration and improved usage. This can be a transformational change as it will reduce the need for conventional finger prick tests for diabetes measurement.

Data Published in “The Red Journal” Validate Prognostic Value of Veracyte’s Decipher Prostate Genomic Classifier for Men with High-Risk Prostate Cancer

Veracyte, Inc. (Nasdaq: VCYT) today announced that data published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics (aka, “The Red Journal”) demonstrate that the company’s Decipher Prostate Genomic Classifier can improve risk stratification among men with clinically high-risk prostate cancer. The data, from a pre-specified analysis of three phase 3 trials, represent the first validation of any gene-expression biomarker on pre-treatment biopsy samples from prospective randomized trials, and suggest the Decipher test provides clinically useful prognostic information to help personalize shared treatment decision-making.

Cancer Symptom Algorithm Presented in JNCCN Can Aid Doctors in Predicting Patients at Risk for Unplanned Emergency Visits

New research in the February 2023 issue of JNCCN—Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network illustrates how the use of an algorithm to calculate a patient-reported symptom complexity score can help oncologists identify patients who are at increased risk for unplanned visits to the emergency department (ED), creating the potential for additional proactive care, and the reduction of healthcare costs. The researchers used the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System-Revised (ESASr) as a measurement tool for the most-common symptoms experienced by people with cancer. After classifying each patient's symptom complexity based on the number and severity of symptoms reported, the researchers correlated the symptom complexity with the odds of having an ED visit within a week.

MannKind to Give Oral Presentation on Meal Challenge Results From the Afrezza® With Basal Combination (ABC Study) at 16th Annual ATTD Conference

MannKind Corporation, a company focused on the development and commercialization of inhaled therapeutic products and devices for patients with endocrine and orphan lung diseases, announced today that it will present an oral presentation describing meal challenge results at the 16th International Conference on Advanced Technologies & Treatment for Diabetes (ATTD) in Berlin February 22-25. The data showed that subjects utilizing inhaled Technosphere Insulin (TI) lowered peak glucose levels 30 minutes faster (200 mg/dl at 60 minutes) than subjects utilizing a rapid-acting analogue (RAA) with an Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) system (264 mg/dl at 90 minutes). Subjects utilizing TI also experienced a significantly lower mean PPG from 45 to 120 minutes post-meal.

MiniMed™ 780G system demonstrates superiority over multiple daily injections with CGM for type 1 diabetes management at one-year in ADAPT study

Medtronic today announced one-year data from the ADAPT study (n=82), the first multi-national randomized controlled study comparing the performance of the MiniMed™ 780G advanced hybrid closed loop system1 (AHCL) against multiple daily injections (MDI) of insulin with an intermittently scanned CGM (isCGM). The study was done in adults (18 years of age and older) not meeting glycemic targets. The initial 6-month results, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, showed AHCL system users experienced a 27.6% absolute increase in Time in Range (TIR) and 1.4% reduction in HbA1C compared to those on MDI + isCGM without increased time in hypoglycemia. These latest results were presented today at the 2023 Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) Conference in Berlin.
