Global digital therapeutics innovation leader, DarioHealth Corp. (NASDAQ: DRIO) ("DarioHealth" or "Dario"), announced today that its online membership offering will now be available for purchase in physical retail stores. The "Membership-in-a-Box" (MIB) package was designed to reach consumers with chronic conditions such as diabetes who shop at retail stores. This concept, started in partnership with Best Buy Online in the U.S., is now planned to expand to other retail chains.

Weekend server overload brings down Dexcom's CGM alert feature, raising alarms among parents

Dexcom continuous glucose monitor users and their caregivers found themselves in the dark this weekend when a key monitoring feature ceased to function with little to no warning. The feature, called Dexcom Follow, transmits an alert when a CGM user’s blood sugar reaches a dangerous level and is often used by parents monitoring their children’s condition. When unexpected issues brought down the service late Friday night, many users found themselves in a panic the next morning when they realized a major blood sugar event could have gone unnoticed.

Early data from Onduo showcasing their diabetes management approach

Preliminary data published last week in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology makes an early case for the Onduo diabetes management approach. By combining connected devices, virtual lifestyle coaching and app-based clinical support, the 740-person study found participation in the program to be associated with significant HbA1c improvement at up to six months among those not meeting their treatment targets.

Sanofi walks back Onduo, its joint venture with Verily, amidst company-wide strategy shift

Sanofi announced a major strategy shift today that will end the pharma’s diabetes and cardiovascular R&D efforts in favor of a reinvigorated focus on growing its immunology and vaccine businesses. Among the fallout of this new game plan is Onduo, the pharma’s diabetes management joint venture with Verily that the two companies invested $500 million into back in 2016, according to the company’s online slide presentation.

Eli Lilly to Integrate Dexcom CGM into Personalized Diabetes Management System

Dexcom’s continuous glucose monitoring devices (CGMs) will be integrated with Eli Lilly and Company’s connected and disposable insulin pens as well as with the company’s pump for a hybrid closed-loop diabetes management system, the companies announced yesterday. The end goal is a personalized insulin delivery and software analysis offering that can reduce the burden for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Effectiveness of diabetes self-management education and support via a smartphone application in insulin-treated patients with type 2 diabetes: results of a randomized controlled trial (TRIGGER study)

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of diabetes self-management education and support via a smartphone app in individuals with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy. The conclusion reached is that the smartphone app providing diabetes self-management education and support had small and clinically not relevant effects. Apps should be more personalized and target individuals who think the app will be useful for them.

Future of information technology and telecommunication in type 1 diabetes clinical care: results of an online survey

A cross-sectional online survey in two European tertiary diabetes care centers in London, UK, and Vienna, Austria, and from online diabetes platforms was conducted. Participants were asked about general options of online diabetes care and were presented with three scenarios (teleconference, online chat and telemonitoring of continuous glucose monitoring traces). This online survey identified a highly ICT-astute group of people with type 1 diabetes, already using technology for insulin delivery, for whom online supported clinical diabetes care would be a viable and welcomed option.
