Livongo to launch voice interface, free medication program; announces Applied Health Signals framework

With new FDA clearance, Abbott Freestyle Libre users can ditch handheld readers for an app

Just a short while after securing a CE Mark for its second generation device, Abbott has been granted FDA clearance for FreeStyle LibreLink, a companion mobile app for its 10 to 14-day CGM. The launch adds a long-awaited feature for US users that’s been available for some time in Europe: users will be able to scan their sensors with an app on their smartphone — and see their latest reading — rather than requiring a separate, proprietary handheld reader (although the reader will still be an option for those that prefer it).

Dexcom talks $11.3M TypeZero acquisition, new FDA clearances on Q3 earnings call

On its third quarter earnings call last week, Dexcom recapped a busy Q3 — of note, one that included the acquisition of TypeZero Technologies for $11.3 million in August as well as two new FDA clearances in October and November. The company saw worldwide revenue of $266.7 million over the quarter, compared to $184.6 million for in Q3 2017, a 44 percent growth. Revenue continues to grow considerably more quickly than expenses.

Alphabet's Verily shelves glucose-sensing contact lens project with Novartis
