Apple has even more secret health aspirations than anyone realized, according to reporting by Christina Farr for CNBC yesterday. Citing sources inside the company, Farr reports that Apple has a small offsite team dedicated to diabetes research that's been working for about five years.

Samsung and WellDoc partner to offer direct-to-consumer version of diabetes management app

Baltimore, Maryland-based WellDoc, which makes a digital platform for chronic disease management, is teaming up with consumer electronics giant Samsung to offer an integrated tool for people living with diabetes. BlueStar will be available directly to consumers under Samsung’s newly launched mobile health app Samsung Health (formerly known as S Health). The new app, which is the most distinctly lifestyle-focused of all three BlueStar apps, marks WellDoc’s biggest step into the consumer tech space to date. The company also offers a prescription-only version of the app called BlueStarRX, and in January received FDA clearance for the non-prescription version.

Digital Health Hires from GlucoMe and Retrofit

Chicago-based online weight loss and diabetes prevention program provider Retrofit has hired three new members to its sales team. Dr. Susan Haluzan will serve as employer sales director in the West, Matt Mrazik will serve as sales director for the East, and Mike Tomback will join as sales director for the West. On the other side, John Erickson will join digital diabetes management company GlucoMe as General Manager for North America. Erickson's background is in the pharma world: he was most recently divisional vice president at Abbott Labs and worked at Johnson & Johnson prior to that.

Brighter partners with Indonesia Mampu to fight diabetes in Indonesia.

Brighter has signed an agreement for contributing to the development of the first healthcare initiative within Indonesia Mampu, a program of works led by Palladium and the Indonesian government body National Team Secretariat for Accelerating Poverty Reduction (TNP2K). As part of this pillar there will be a focus on diabetes prevention and treatment where Brighter’s knowledge and technology will be an important component. The result is expected, among other things, to generate an increase of access to state of the art diabetes treatment and management. The partnership will help Brighter to penetrate Indonesia’s market by enhancing its current efforts with Indosat Ooredoo and Ericsson.
