Solera Health raises $3M, led by BCBS Venture Partners, to connect communities with diabetes prevention programs

Phoenix, Arizona-based Solera Health has raised $3 million for its software as a service platform for managing chronic disease prevention programs. BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners led the round with additional participation from Sandbox Ventures. Solera makes a platform that connects community organizations with digital chronic disease prevention programs such as the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).

Survey: 35 percent of US consumers say doctors are knowledgeable about digital health devices

Patients view physicians as more knowledgeable about digital health than physicians view themselves, according to a recent Ipsos survey of physicians, the general population, and people with diabetes in the UK and US. Ipsos' survey included responses for 200 US providers, 200 UK providers, 4,185 US consumers, 2,503 UK consumers, 416 people with Type 2 diabetes in the US, and 257 people with Type 2 diabetes in the UK.

Former Lilly diabetes exec's glucose sensing smartphone case begins crowdfunding

San Jose, California-based Akibah just launched a crowdfunding campaign for its connected glucometer smartphone case, called GluCase. The company's CEO is Larry Ellingson, who was previously chair of the American Diabetes Association as well as executive director of diabetes care at pharma company Eli Lilly.

Internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy for depression in people with diabetes: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial

Depression substantially contributes to the personal burden and healthcare costs of living with diabetes mellitus (DM). Comorbid depression and DM are associated with poorer quality of life, poorer self-management and glycemic control, increased risk for DM complications and higher mortality rates, and higher health service utilization. Depression remains under-recognized and undertreated in people with DM, which may, in part, result from barriers associated with accessing face-to-face treatment. This study will examine the efficacy of an internet-based cognitive behaviour therapy programme for major depressive disorder (iCBT-MDD) in people with DM.

BD Announces Results For 2015 Fourth Fiscal Quarter And Full Year; Provides Fiscal 2016 Guidance

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a leading global medical technology company, today reported quarterly adjusted revenues of $3.067 billion for the fourth fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2015, an increase of 39.3 percent over the prior-year period as reported, or 49.1 percent on a currency-neutral basis. On a comparable, currency-neutral basis, fourth quarter adjusted revenues grew 5.1 percent. As reported, fourth quarter revenues were $3.059 billion. For the full fiscal year ended September 30, 2015, BD reported adjusted revenues of $10.302 billion, an increase of 22.0 percent over the prior-year period as reported, or 29.5 percent on a currency-neutral basis. On a comparable, currency-neutral basis, full fiscal year adjusted revenues grew 5.3 percent. As reported, full fiscal year revenues were $10.282 billion.
