BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX) announced today that it will conduct a live webcast of its third fiscal quarter 2014 earnings conference call on Thursday, July 31, at 8:00 a.m. (ET). BD will issue a press release detailing the quarter's earnings earlier that morning.
Apple periodically updates its app store with lists of apps for particular groups of people. Even as the new iOS 8, with a built in Health app, goes into beta, Apple has added a new list: "Apple's Apps for Diabetics." The apps on Apple's list aren't all from the US, and they don't all target diabetes specifically.

It almost sounds like a top secret project: Novartis’ Alcon unit has licensed nascent technology from Google’s X division. The two companies intend to work on the smart contact lenses Google revealed earlier this year, at which point much of the attention went to the glucose-monitoring abilities and how they could perhaps be used to track diabetics’ blood sugar levels via tears.

Israel-based HelpAround, which makes an app that connects people with diabetes in the same immediate area , has raised $550,000 from Windham Venture Partners and angel investors Walter Winshall, Robert Oringer and former Harmonix COO Michael Dornbrook. Windham and the angel investors co-led the round. The app allows patients with diabetes and parents of children with diabetes to reach out to a nearby support network if they forget test strips at home, need help operating a Glucagon injection, or just want to talk to someone about their diabetes. Outside of crisis situations, anonymous networks of people can help each other find local healthcare services, insurance plans, doctors, pharmacies and retailers.
Maintaining glucose in the target range, while avoiding hypoglycemia, is challenging in critically ill patients. The study investigated the performance and safety of Medtronic Sentrino, a newly developed continuous glucose management (CGM) system for critically ill adults.

Joslin and Glooko have launched the HypoMap, a mobile tool that enables diabetics and their caregivers to identify low blood-sugar readings, or hypoglycemia.
