Abbott reinforces its commitment towards access to holistic diabetes care

Abbott announced new collaborations with key health-tech partners BeatO, Sugar.fit, PharmEasy, GOQii, 1MG, Zyla Health, Healthifyme and Fitterfly to usher in a new era of holistic diabetes management care. Through these collaborations, Abbott aims to offer glucose monitoring solutions to 8 million people living with diabetes, of which approximately 6.5mn users can access through PharmEasy and 1MG. The company focuses on maintaining effective glucose levels and remote consultations, diabetes-specific coaching, and dietary plans.

Humana and Virta Health Team Up to Bring Type 2 Diabetes Reversal Treatment to Humana Employer Group Members

Humana is teaming up with Virta Health to offer a new solution for type 2 diabetes care for Humana Employer Group members. Beginning in January 2022, Humana will include Virta’s treatment as an option for large, self-funded Employer Groups. The treatment, a first-of-its-kind, is designed to help people reverse their type 2 diabetes through individualized nutritional therapy and continuous remote medical care—allowing patients to achieve normal blood sugar while eliminating the need for diabetes-specific medications.

Providence Health Plan (PHP), a not-for-profit health insurer serving the Western U.S., today announced positive results from a strategic partnership with type 2 diabetes reversal leader Virta Health. Quartz today announced a partnership with Virta Health to offer an innovative solution for type 2 diabetes and obesity for Quartz members. This partnership is the newest advancement in Quartz’s care model, used to help members improve their health, according to their personalized goals, at all stages of life. The Virta program launched this week for members and eligible dependents between the ages of 18 and 79 with obesity and/or type 2 diabetes who are enrolled in an eligible health plan through Quartz. VA and Virta Health partner in innovative approach to diabetes care

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a partnership on May 13 with Virta Health to explore an innovative program focused on improving the health of persons with type 2 diabetes. In effect since March 22, the agreement will give 400 Veterans the opportunity to participate in the Virta Treatment, which can help individuals safely and sustainably achieve glycemic control while reducing use of medications. This diabetes care will be provided for up to one year at no cost to VA or Veteran participants.

SOMPO Digital Lab is the innovation group of Tokyo-based insurance and healthcare conglomerate Sompo Holdings. Sidekick specializes in the creation of gamified digital therapeutic (DTx) solutions and programs, transforming chronic disease management across multiple therapeutic areas in alliance with key stakeholders in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The PoC will focus primarily on testing the feasibility of Sidekick’s solution and its ability to enable basic health outcomes such as lower glucose levels, weight loss, increased physical activity, improved sleep quality and emotional well being. The PoC will be performed in partnership with healthcare institutions in the Nordics.

SidekickHealth gets an injection from Novator

Novator, Björgólf Thor Björgólfsson's investment company, and related investors have completed a one hundred million ISK injection into the Icelandic health technology company SidekickHealth, but the investor group has contributed hundreds of millions to the company since its inception. SidekickHealth has one foot in the door of the global pharmaceutical industry after successfully partnering with two of the world's five largest pharmaceutical companies. A second and larger capital increase is planned for the end of the year.
