First Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Woebot to Clinician-Led Psychotherapy Reveals Digital Mental Health Intervention is Non-Inferior in Reducing Depressive Symptoms Among Teens

Woebot Health announced positive results from a study at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) showing that the digital mental health intervention W-GenZD, a Woebot-based study app, led to reductions in depressive symptoms that were non-inferior to those achieved by a clinician-led telehealth Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills group. The study was designed to investigate the feasibility, satisfaction and non-inferiority (for PHQ-8) of W-GenZD (n = 71) compared to a group receiving CBT skills delivered via telehealth and led by a licensed mental health clinician (n = 70). Participants in both the W-GenZD and telehealth groups reported a significant reduction in depressive symptoms (PHQ-8) from baseline to end of treatment (week 4) and had similar levels of intervention feasibility and satisfaction. The results were presented in a poster presentation at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) conference.

New Woebot Health Study Highlights AI's Ability to Address Equity and Accessibility Gaps in Mental Health Care

Woebot Health today announced the results from a new study of Woebot for Adults (previously Woebot-LIFE), a digital mental health intervention that provides in-the-moment support to people experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. The study, in which 256 adults received an 8-week intervention, was designed to assess changes in depression and anxiety symptoms, stress, resilience, burnout, levels of engagement and therapeutic working alliance, as well as access and barriers to care. Key study findings showed that participants with baseline clinical levels of depressive or anxiety symptoms experienced significant declines in self-reported symptoms. Woebot for Adults is a non-prescription medical device under FDA enforcement discretion; it is not evaluated, cleared or approved by FDA. Robinson added the study will periodically relaunch to collect new data and new insights as part of the company’s “Science in the Loop” approach to product development.

ChatGPT Shows Limited Ability to Recommend Guidelines-Based Cancer Treatments

With ChatGPT now at patients’ fingertips, researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a founding member of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system, assessed how consistently the artificial intelligence chatbot provides recommendations for cancer treatment that align with National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines. Their findings, published in JAMA Oncology, show that in approximately one-third of cases, ChatGPT 3.5 provided an inappropriate (“non-concordant”) recommendation, highlighting the need for awareness of the technology’s limitations.
