Express Scripts Includes Propeller Health in Its First Formulary for Digital Health Solutions

Express Scripts today announced its first formulary for digital and mobile health apps and devices, which will include Propeller Health’s digital health platform for asthma and COPD. According to Express Scripts, the Digital Health Formulary enables participating health plans and employers to increase patients’ access to emerging products and technologies simply and affordably. People who use a program on the Digital Health Formulary will receive support from Express Scripts specialist pharmacists to ensure appropriate use of the technology.

About eight month after its unveiling, Express Scripts has now revealed the companies and programs it is including in the inaugural cohort of its digital health formulary — the first such resource from a pharmacy benefits manager designed to help clients review vetted digital health programs. These services, designated as either a preferred or alternative option, come from Livongo, Omada Health, LifeScan (powered by Welldoc), Propeller Health, Learn to Live and SilverCloud Health. Express Scripts, meanwhile, benefits by collecting compensation for the digital services provided to clients, and by providing an enticing offering that will satisfy both existing and new customers.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Launches Omada’s Type 2 Diabetes Management Program

Deepening a collaboration that began in 2013, Omada Health and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) today announced the availability of Omada’s Type 2 Diabetes Digital Care program as a covered benefit for the insurer’s commercial plans. Building on the two organizations’ success deploying digital diabetes prevention in the state, Omada’s type 2 diabetes program will be available for Minnesota employers to launch beginning January 2020. Blue Cross also announced a strategic investment in Omada Health through the insurer’s parent company.

BCBS Covers Hygieiea's Service

In late June, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan made a deal with digital insulin therapy company Hygieia making its d-Nav Insulin Guidance Service available to members, following new data results. At the American Diabetes Association conference the insulin management company announced that in a study of the technology, patients in its trial group saw an average HbA1c reduction of 1.0 percent, versus 0.3 percent in the control group. In addition, patients also reported high satisfaction results and comfort with the d-Nav service, according to the company.
