Berlin-based Cara Care app approved as German DiGA

The German Federal Institute für Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) has added a new digital therapeutic to its digital health applications (DiGA) directory for public reimbursement. Cara Care is the first DiGA that addresses gastroenterological issues and widespread digestive health problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), food and reflux intolerances.

Oklahoma Health Care Authority and Pear Therapeutics Enter into Value-Based Agreement for reSET® and reSET-O®

Pear Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PEAR), the parent company of Pear Therapeutics (US), Inc., the leader in developing and commercializing software-based medicines called prescription digital therapeutics (PDTs), announced today a value-based agreement with Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) to provide access to Pear’s PDTs reSET® and reSET-O® to help fight the growing substance and opioid addiction crisis. Effective January 1, 2022, reSET and reSET-O will be made available to Oklahomans enrolled in Oklahoma Medicaid, commonly known as SoonerCare. Pear’s products reSET and reSET-O are the first and only FDA-authorized, safe and effective PDTs for the treatment of substance use disorder and opioid use disorder, respectively.

Pfizer to promote Alex Therapeutics' smoking cessation app

Pfizer has inked a deal with the Swedish digital therapeutic platform developer Alex Therapeutics to help study and launch a smartphone app for combating nicotine addiction. Prior to commercialization, Pfizer’s Germany-based division will first help with clinical validation of the smoking cessation program, dubbed Elia. The initial goal is to develop a prescription app that would be reimbursable under Germany’s digital healthcare regulations.

Report names Europe’s digital health app reimbursement leaders and laggards

The reimbursement channel for digital health apps in Europe has traditionally been long and complex. But new analysis from Research2Guidance (R2G) predicts reimbursement opportunities will improve significantly over the next few years. An R2G report has categorised European countries into groups of leaders, fast followers, certifiers and laggards, based on their public health insurance system’s reimbursement process status. Leading the way are Germany, Belgium and France which have standardised reimbursement processes for digital health applicatoins and therapeutics in place or soon to be launched.

Pear Therapeutics advances in efforts to get CMS to cover prescription digital therapeutics

Pear Therapeutics (NSDQ:PEAR) announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established new coding relevant to its prescription digital therapeutics (PDTs). CMS established a new Level II Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code to describe prescription digital behavioral therapy — FDA-cleared — per course of treatment, which extends to PDTs including Pear’s reSET, reSET-O and Somryst. The CMS coding decision, published on Feb. 16, 2022, becomes effective on April 1, 2022. The code for prescription digital behavioral therapy is “A9291.”

The application of Tilak Healthcare for eye health will be reimbursed by Social Security

The French start-up Tilak Health announces the reimbursement of its OdySight application, an eye health monitoring application. It is part of article 51, created in 2018 as part of the social security financing law, which allows experimentation with new organizations in the health sector. Its use makes it possible to remunerate the doctors prescribing the application. Developed by the start-up Tilak Healthcare, this application offers visual tests and therapeutic games to monitor the state of health of patients with ocular pathologies. It is currently used by more than 400 retinologists and has been prescribed to 3,500 patients in France.
