Guardant Health, Flatiron Health announce integration of Guardant genomic profiling tests into OncoEMR® platform

Guardant Health, a leading precision oncology company, and Flatiron Health announced an initiative to integrate Guardant’s comprehensive genomic profiling tests within Flatiron’s OncoEMR®, a leading cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR) tool. The integration simplifies access to critical data that informs patient care decisions for over 2,000 clinicians within the Flatiron network, which includes more than 800 community-based cancer care locations across the U.S. Users can easily submit Guardant Health test orders, track real-time status updates, and receive the test results directly in the patient record, via the Molecular Profiling Integration on the OncoEMR platform. This streamlines workflows for physicians and saves time in the ordering process. The companies beta-tested the integration at multiple oncology practice sites across the U.S. earlier this year and saw >75% utilization of the integration vs. traditional ordering workflows. Guardant Health and Flatiron Health plan to roll the integration out to the entire OncoEMR network over the next several months.

Skin Cancer Diagnoses Using AI Are as Reliable as those Made by Medical Experts

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already widely used in medical diagnostics. An Austrian-Australian research team led by dermatologist Harald Kittler from MedUni Vienna investigated the extent to which diagnosis and therapy of pigmented skin lesions benefit from it in a realistic clinical scenario. In a study published by The Lancet Digital Health, the team compared the accuracy in diagnosis and therapy recommendation of two different algorithms in smartphone applications with that of doctors. The results show that the AI application generally performs well in diagnosis. However, doctors were clearly superior when it came to treatment decisions.

Henlius and OncoHost partner to predict trial outcomes using machine learning

Hengenix Biotech (Henlius USA) has partnered with OncoHost to perform biomarker analysis and predict clinical benefit probability in the patients recruited as part of the Phase III clinical trial for serplulimab. OncoHost’s PROphet platform analyses blood samples using aptamer-based assays and applies machine learning models for patient selection, overall survival (OS)/ progression-free survival (PFS) prediction, mechanisms of action discovery, adverse events prediction and response prediction. The PROphet platform will analyse the patients’ biomarkers in the serplulimab Phase III trial (NCT05468489) to identify resistance patterns in the recruited patient population. The open-label Phase III trial compares the efficacy and safety of serplulimab and chemotherapy (carboplatin-etoposide) in combination with the standard of care, atezolizumab plus chemotherapy, in previously untreated US-based patients with Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (ES-SCLC).

Lucida Medical's New AI Software for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis Received CE Mark Certification

Lucida Medical Ltd, a Cambridge-based start-up company dedicated to improving cancer diagnosis, has announced Class IIb CE certification for its AI-based prostate cancer detection software, Prostate Intelligence™ (Pi™). Built with leading clinicians and UK NHS hospitals, the CE mark means the software can now benefit patients across Europe. Data presented at the European Society for Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) in September 2023 indicated that Pi™ could help cut undetected cancers to 6% while also reducing avoidable biopsies to 43%. Using AI, Pi™ analyses the MRI and is fully integrated into the radiologist's workflow, targeting key issues of variability, radiologist time, and diagnostic accuracy in prostate cancer. Specifically, Pi™ is intended to be used by radiologists to assess and report prostate MRI studies, by automatically producing 3D segmentations, volumes and risk scores. The company plans to make Pi™ commercially available in the UK and EU in Q1, 2024. Pi™ is not for sale in the US.
