Oncohost platform predicts response to lung cancer therapy

Prophet, Oncohost Ltd.’s artificial intelligence-driven proteomics profiling platform, predicted response to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients in a study presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology Virtual Congress 2021. While ICI can generate a significant positive response in some patients with advanced NSCLC, in others the therapy promotes tumor growth, making identification of likely responders prior to treatment critical.

Roche welcomes PathAI into its open digital pathology initiative

Roche has tapped PathAI for a collaboration that looks to merge artificial intelligence programs with its digital pathology work, with an eye on boosting the Big Pharma’s development of new drugs and companion diagnostic tests. Under a joint distribution agreement, the two companies will work to develop an embedded image analysis program based on PathAI’s algorithms, which will run through Roche’s cloud-based uPath enterprise software. The coordinated effort will start with PathAI’s algorithms for research use only, spanning multiple types of cancer.

Roche is Validating the Utility of Real-World Evidence as a comparator to Single-arm Clinical Trials

Over the past decade or so, real-world evidence (RWE) has emerged as an extremely important tool for bringing innovative treatments to patients. New research from Roche, one of the largest and most influential life science companies in the world, is making a very strong argument in RWE’s favor. In a relatively rare subpopulation of patients carrying the ALK driver mutation in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), Roche performed a single arm trial for the targeted therapy alectinib. In oncology, it is relatively hard to recruit patients with driver mutation positive disease into trials, so the purpose of Roche’s trial was to try to provide this medicine faster to patients who urgently need it.
