DarioHealth raises $5.1M to expand markets for smart blood glucose monitoring system

Israel-based DarioHealth, makers of a smartphone-connected glucometer, has raised $3 million as part of a definitive agreement for a total aggregate raise of $5.1 million. Crowdfunding equity platform OurCrowd Qure led the investment round. The company, which has also done business as LabStyle, said it will use the funding to expand the company’s existing markets as well as move into new geographic areas.

Livongo Health has raised an additional $52.5 million in a round led by General Catalyst and Kinnevik. At the moment, Livongo Health is focused on diabetes management. But given that the company has been able to wedge itself into the budgets of payers and into the minds of consumers, it seems natural that it would treat it as a launch point. Tullman said the next step, in addition to trying to expand internationally, is to also grow into management for other chronic diseases.
