Internet CBT for pediatric OCD maintains, or even increases, effectiveness over 12 months

New data suggest that an Internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) intervention not only remained effective after 12 months among adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder, but seemed to have an even greater impact on their symptoms with time. The average age of the 61 adolescents who received ICBT was about 14-and-a-half. The researchers found a significant increase in responses between the three-month and 12-month check-ins, with the latter having increased to a rate of 73%. The researchers saw a similar nine-month jump in remitters.

Smoking cessation app Quit Genius proves to be effective in the short term

The smoking-cessation digital-therapeutic app Quit Genius was found to be an effective treatment for people trying to stop smoking, especially when they are compared to individuals seeking out their own regimen, according to new research from JMIR Mental Health. Quit Genius’ treatment relies on cognitive behavioral therapy to guide users through a year-long smoking cessation program. It uses strategies like self-monitoring, goal setting, encouraging medication adherence and providing feedback on progress to guide users through the program. Users also have access to a quit coach, an advisor qualified by the U.K.'s National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training, to guide and support them.

How digital health can reveal if a patient’s asthma or COPD is under control

Digital health tools are used to track patient health data over time and provide insight into important trends overlooked when looking at single data points during a patient’s visit with a healthcare provider. The data collected by these tools has great potential when integrated with the patient’s clinical care. Propeller’s research team has been digging into this topic and recently presented their findings at the 2020 European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress, which was virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Respiratory platform NuvoAir shows high acceptance of its home spirometry

Studies on paediatric pulmonology from the UK and Sweden have demonstrated that both young and adult patients with respiratory disease can achieve good quality spirometry at home, without clinical supervision, when using the NuvoAir Home platform. The platform allows patients to self-monitor their respiratory health and share clinically relevant data with their care teams, who can view these data remotely via a healthcare portal. Other key findings show that patient adherence to self-monitoring schedules is high and that the technology is well accepted by patients and parents.
