Big Health’s CBT app improves conditions of users with insomnia symptoms

A new dual-arm randomized trial published this morning in JAMA Psychiatry found that use of Big Health’s Sleepio app as a digital cognitive behavioral therapy (dCBT) led to significant improvements in self-reported functional health, psychological wellbeing, and sleep-related quality of life among those with symptoms to insomnia. Among a study group of 1,711 users, use of the Sleepio app appeared to drive improvements in self-reported functional health, psychological wellbeing, and sleep-related quality of life.

Theranica Announces Results from Pivotal Study of Device for Treating Acute Migraine

The prospective, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, multi-center study evaluated the efficacy, safety and tolerability of the device on 252 patients who met the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3) criteria of migraine with or without aura. The study met its primary and almost all of its secondary and exploratory results with high statistical significance. On its primary endpoint of pain relief at 2 hours post-treatment the device demonstrated 66.7% response rate in the active arm vs. 38.8% in the placebo.

Impact of a digital health intervention on asthma resource utilization

This quality improvement project assessed the benefit of these interventions (Propeller Health) on asthma-related healthcare utilizations, including hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) utilization and outpatient visits. In 224 study patients, the number of asthma-related ED visits and combined ED and hospitalization events 365 days pre- to 365 days post-enrollment to the intervention significantly decreased from 11.6 to 5.4 visits (p < 0.05) and 13.4 to 5.8 events (p < 0.05) per 100 patient-years, respectively. This digital health intervention was successfully incorporated into routine clinical practice and was associated with lower rates of asthma-related hospitalizations and ED visits.

Omada Program for Underserved Participants Delivers Strong Results

Today, researchers from the University of Southern California presented the results of a clinical study on the effectiveness of Omada’s Digital Diabetes Prevention Program with low-income, underserved populations. Revealed at the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting, the results of a clinical trial demonstrated the Omada Program delivered greater than four percent weight loss at the end of the trial period. Nearly 40 percent of participants lost at least five percent of their starting body weight. The program also saw strong engagement early, with 55 percent of users completing a minimum of nine of the initial 16 lessons.

Patient experience, efficiency and cost effects of digital patient monitoring evaluated at the new study by Helsinki University Hospital

Urology department of Helsinki University Hospital has started a new research project ePRO-PCaRP/RT* evaluating patient experience, efficiency and cost effects of digital patient monitoring among prostate cancer patients. Kaiku Health application and an electronic questionnaire is used to evaluate the patient’s quality of life. Over 600 prostate cancer patients treated with both surgery and radiotherapy will be invited to participate in the research. Duration of this randomized phase III trial is approximately two years and the results will be published in relevant scientific journals

Akili Interactive announced top-line results from the Company’s STARS-ADHD pivotal study of its lead investigational digital medicine, AKL-T01, in ADHD. Outcomes of a Digital Health Program With Human Coaching for Diabetes Risk Reduction in a Medicare Population

The aim of the study is to examine the outcomes of a Medicare population who participated in a program combining digital health with human coaching for diabetes risk reduction. People at risk for diabetes enrolled in a program (Omada Health) combining digital health with human coaching. Participation and health outcomes were examined at 16 weeks and 6 and 12 months. A total of 501 participants were enrolled. This Medicare population demonstrated sustained program engagement and improved weight, health, and well-being. The findings support digital programs with human coaching for reducing chronic disease risk among older adults.
