Tandem Diabetes Care Reports Second Quarter 2015 Financial Results

Tandem Diabetes Care®, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNDM), a medical device company and manufacturer of the t:slim® and t:flex™ Insulin Pumps, today reported its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2015. As of June 30, 2015, the Company had $99.7 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. Operating loss for the second quarter of 2015 was $18.7 million, compared to $18.3 million for the same period of 2014. This included non-cash, stock-based compensation of $3.3 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2015, compared to $3.5 million for the same period of 2014. For the second quarter of 2015, operating expenses increased 8 percent to $23.5 million from $21.8 million for the same period of 2014.

IHS: About 4M patients will use remote patient monitoring technologies by 2020

Some 4 million patients globally will remotely monitor their health conditions by 2020, up from 664,000 patients in 2014, according to a new report from IHS Technology. About 120,300 patients were monitoring diabetes remotely in 2014 and this number of patients will grow at a CAGR of 35 percent to 712,800 in 2020.

Next up for Google: a glucose-sensing patch for diabetics

One of the leaders in the diabetes management market is turning to Google to make its blood glucose sensors smaller and more appealing to diabetics. And with some 10 percent of the American population dependent on those sensors to manage their chronic condition, that's a sizeable market to address. San Diego-based Dexcom's partnership with Google's Life Sciences division is designed to create "something that is very, very low cost and very small," Dexcom Vice President Steve Pacelli told Forbes. "Add all that together with a robust data platform. … Diabetes management is largely predicated on having data to make better decisions."

Torontonians will be first to use combined WellDoc-Samsung mobile-enabled diabetes program

WellDoc and Samsung will bring a new version of WellDoc's BlueStar mobile prescription therapy for diabetes to 300 Toronto citizens in partnership with the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), a Canadian government-funded nonprofit. The new offering, BlueStar-S, will combine features of BlueStar and Samsung S Health.
