18 Startups Selected for Batch Two of the "Insurtech Europe powered by Plug and Play" Program

Insurtech Europe, Plug and Play's Insurtech platform based in Munich, Germany, announced today the 18 startups have been selected for its second batch. The "Insurtech Europe powered by Plug and Play" program aims to facilitate pilots, POCs, and business development opportunities for the participating startups and our corporate partners Allianz, Munich Re, Versicherungskammer Bayern, Talanx, Irish Life, Willis Towers Watson, Swiss Re, and Generali Germany. One of the selected startups, Fosanis, supports cancer patients coping with their mental and medical challenges through their digital Mika App.

Meru Health raises $4.2M in Funding and Publishes Strong Clinical Outcomes

Meru Health, a digital clinic for greater mental health, announced today that is has secured $4.2M in Series Seed financing from Freestyle Capital, Bonit Capital, Y Combinator, Lifeline Ventures and IT-Farm. Meru Health, a Y Combinator 2018 company and currently participating in the Texas Medical Center TMCx Accelerator in Houston, has developed a licensed-clinician-supported, mobile phone-based digital therapeutic program for depression and anxiety. This financing will support additional clinical validation and preparation for larger scale rollout to health systems and large employers in several states across the U.S.

Boehringer leads investment in digital therapy for myopia

Digital startup Dopavision has raised cash in a seed funding round backed by Boehringer Ingelheim, to develop a smartphone-based digital therapy for myopia (short-sightedness). Lead investor was Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, joined by business angel Ralf Meister and existing shareholder Flying Health in the financing round in May. The team will use the capital to perform pre-clinical experiments, making it one of the world’s first digital therapeutics to be validated in an animal model.

Medtronic invests $2M in DreaMed

Medical equipment giant Medtronic has invested $2 million in DreaMed Diabetes, an Israeli startup company that develops a new delivery system of insulin. DreaMed has signed an exclusive development and license agreement with Medtronic for the development and marketing of products incorporating DreaMed’s technology in Medtronic’s insulin pumps. DreaMed was founded in 2014 by Eran Atlas and Shahar Miller.

Goodlifeme raises $1.5M to launch its health gaming app in the USA

Goodlifeme, a Swedish-based, Icelandic-founded healthtech company, announced it raised $1.5M in an investment round led by Frumtak Ventures. The money will be used for expanding the business in the United States. Goodlifeme, based in Gothenburg, produces a mobile-based health program, SidekickHealth, and also has a large part of the business operations run through its subsidiary in Iceland. Sidekick Health is a software application that makes use of behavioral economics, game technology and artificial intelligence and is used to identify risk factors and impact on health behavior in order to reduce the prevalence and severity of lifestyle-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease. The app has already some traction in Sweden and Iceland.

Pai family, others put Rs 13.5 crore in Wellthy Therapeutics

Digital therapeutics firm Wellthy Therapeutics has raised Rs 13.5 crore ($2.1 million) from Ranjan Pai’s family office Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG) family office LLP along with Apoorva Patniled Currae Healthtech Fund, Singapore-based Beenext Ventures, GrowX Ventures, IIFL Select Equity Fund amongst other individual investors. The Mumbai-based firm that plays into digital therapeutics, enables treatment of type-II diabetes using a hybrid of AI and human paramedical coaches to improve health literacy and facilitate behaviour change for better outcomes in patients.
