Blue Cross NC Expands Telehealth Offerings Through Collaboration with Teladoc Health

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) and Teladoc Health, Inc. (NYSE: TDOC) announced the rollout of Teladoc Health’s comprehensive virtual care platform to select Blue Cross NC employers and members. Members on most Blue Cross NC individual and fully insured group plans will have access to Teladoc Health’s full suite of chronic care management solutions, such as Livongo for diabetes and myStrength for behavioral health, will be available to self-funded employers starting in 2022.

Early data shows Livongo lowers blood pressure at six weeks

The study looked at 708 individuals with both diabetes and hypertension. Patients whose blood pressure was higher than 130/80 mm Hg saw their systolic blood pressure drop by an average of 11.2 mm Hg and their diastolic pressure drop by an average of 5.2 mm Hg after six weeks in the program, which included digital coaching and self-monitoring with a smartphone-connected blood pressure cuff.

Livongo's diabetes, hypertension management program cuts down high blood pressure over 12 weeks

Livongo is touting new data regarding the efficacy of its device-and-coaching disease management platform, this time among those using its Livongo for Hypertension and Livongo for Diabetes products together. The study examined a cohort of 1,690 Livongo members with a diabetes diagnosis and hypertension. After 12 weeks of Livongo’s testing and coaching program, those whose hypertension was uncontrolled recorded decreases of 7.2 mmHg for systolic blood pressure, and 4.0 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure (P < .001).
