Roche Launches a Digital PCR System

Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced the launch of the Digital LightCyclerⓇ System, Roche's first digital polymerase chain reaction ( PCR) system. This next-generation system detects disease and is designed to accurately quantify trace amounts of specific DNA and RNA targets not typically detectable by conventional PCR methods.For areas like oncology and infectious disease, the system provides new opportunities for researchers beyond what traditional PCR technology can achieve. This includes ultra rare targets, accurately quantifying how much of the target DNA or RNA there is at a molecular level, and other high precision analysis.

New AI Technology Integrates Multiple Data Types to Predict Cancer Outcomes

While it's long been understood that predicting outcomes in patients with cancer requires considering many factors, such as patient history, genes and disease pathology, clinicians struggle with integrating this information to make decisions about patient care. A new study from researchers from the Mahmood Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital reveals a proof-of-concept model that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to combine multiple types of data from different sources to predict patient outcomes for 14 different types of cancer. Results are published in Cancer Cell.

Kaiku Health expands partnership with a leading global medicines company to provide improved cancer care to more patients across multiple indications

Last year Kaiku Health, a leading digital therapeutics platform for cancer care, announced its collaboration with Novartis, a leading global medicines company, in developing digital patient monitoring and management for melanoma patients. Following the success of the collaboration, Kaiku Health and Novartis are now expanding it into a partnership. In the first phase of the collaboration, Kaiku Health and Novartis developed a therapy-specific module for patients receiving Tafinlar (dabrafenib) and Mekinist (trametinib) combination targeted therapies. The project started with cancer clinics in Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy using the Tafinlar and Mekinist specific module alongside Kaiku’s BRAF/MEK Module. ''The next phase of our partnership includes taking machine learning algorithms further.'' says Henri Virtanen, Deputy General Manager and Co-Founder of Kaiku Health.

Delivery of cancer care via an outpatient telephone support line: a cross-sectional study of oncology nursing perspectives on quality and challenges

Patient support lines (PSLs) assist in triaging clinical problems, addressing patient queries, and navigating a complex multi-disciplinary oncology team. While providing support and training to the nursing staff who operate these lines is key, there is limited data on their experience and feedback. Despite high rates of satisfaction with the care provided by the PSL, the study identified several important areas for improvement which we feel warrant further investigation.
