Pear Therapeutics Announces Collaboration with Apricity Health to Advance Prescription Digital Therapeutics to be Prescribed in Combination with Immuno-oncology Therapy

Pear Therapeutics, Inc. the leader in Prescription Digital Therapeutics (PDTs), announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Apricity Health, LLC to develop up to two product candidates for precision management of patients undergoing cancer treatment. Apricity, a pioneer in leveraging technology and analytics to address the expertise gap in real-world medicine, is developing its first product candidate, ApricityRx™, to enable intelligent monitoring and precision management of patients receiving immune checkpoint therapies. As part of the agreement, Pear will have the option to license two oncology PDTs arising out of this combined effort.

Voluntis, BMS collaborate on app for cancer patients

Amid a breakdown of its new strategic direction, Paris-based Voluntis announced a new partnership with Bristol-Myers Squibb that aims to support cancer patients with a new digital-therapeutic platform. Patients would use this app-based tool to track their symptoms and treatment, while also being provided with relevant self-management recommendations via an evidence-based algorithm. Alongside managing their own care, the companies hope that cancer patients using the platform will be empowered to better discuss their condition with providers.

Digital Medicine Leader Biofourmis Expands into Oncology Market with Strategic Acquisition of Gaido Health

Biofourmis, a global leader in digital medicine that powers personalized predictive care, announced today it has finalized an agreement to acquire Gaido Health, a strategic deal that expands Biofourmis’ portfolio in the oncology space. Gaido Health—a Los Angeles-area based digital medicine company focused on the oncology market—was part of Takeda Digital Ventures, Takeda’s corporate technology investment and incubation arm. Gaido Health’s solution, which will be supported by Biofourmis’ existing Biovitals® platform, combines information on vital signs collected via remote monitoring in the home, patient surveys and analytics to detect early signs of complications in patients with cancer who have been recently discharged from the hospital.

10 million € investment boosts Finnish capabilities in cancer immunotherapy

Cancer IO is a new cancer immunotherapy focused collaborative research and innovation project that starts as a part of the Business Finland’s Personalized Health Program. This University of Helsinki coordinated project integrates immuno-oncology (IO) activities at the Universities of Helsinki and Turku, 3 University hospitals and one central hospital, 8 Finnish small or medium enterprises, several cancer patient organizations and the 9 largest IO-investing pharmaceutical companies. And Kaiku Health takes part in this significant national project with its digital health intervention platform for detecting and managing immune-related adverse events during and after cancer immunotherapy treatments. With a total funding of 10 million euros, Cancer IO is a significant IO focused Nordic research and innovation program.

ML Models Trained With Patient-Reported Data Can Predict Onset And Presence Of Immune-Related Adverse Events

The cooperative research between Kaiku Health and Oulu University Hospital aimed to investigate whether patient-reported symptom data (Patient-Reported Outcomes) could be used as an input for machine learning-based prediction models for early detection of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). The research was published at ASCO Annual Meeting 2020 Online Publication on the 13th of May, 2020. The results suggest that machine learning-based prediction models, using patient-reported symptom data as input for the models, can predict the presence and onset of irAEs with high accuracy.

Kaiku Health extends its cooperation with Hirslanden Radiotherapy to digital symptom management of cancer patients undergoing oncological rehabilitation

Hirslanden Radiotherapy in Switzerland has implemented Kaiku Health as a digital patient management solution in the Oncological Rehabilitation of cancer patients in Aargau (ORA) program. The first pilot group of patients started to use Kaiku Health as a part of their rehabilitation on June 1st 2020. The rehabilitation project aims to restore patients’ physical, social and mental wellbeing during and after cancer treatments. It includes psychological, sexual, physical and nutritional follow-up and therapy in order to holistically improve the patients’ quality of life. The pilot also investigates how digital symptom management can be used to support cancer patients’ rehabilitation.

Research finds that digital therapeutic app can ease symptoms of ‘chemo brain’ in breast cancer patients

In a clinical trial at the University of Antwerp, between 2016 and 2020, experts investigated whether the digital therapeutic app MyCognition is an effective approach to assess and improve cognitive decline, alongside standard care for the rehabilitation of breast cancer. The study found that using the digital therapeutic app MyCognition can ease perception of cognitive decline in breast cancer patients. Around 75% of breast cancer patients report experiencing cognitive decline known as ‘chemo brain’ during or after treatment, according to research. MyCognition is a UK-based company which researches, develops and creates digital therapeutics to measure and enhance cognitive fitness. Its apps have been approved by the NHS.
